Teacher on Leave Wins "Come Dine with Me": Probe Launched

Teacher on Sick Leave Exposed on TV

A 34-year-old German teacher has found himself in a difficult situation after participating in the German version of "Come Dine with Me." Dominik W., an English and geography teacher in North Rhine-Westphalia, was allegedly on sick leave for a year when he took part in two cooking shows. His colleagues discovered the deception when they recognized him on television. The Cologne regional administration has since initiated a disciplinary procedure to determine whether these television appearances occurred during his period of absence from work.

3,000 Euros for Baba Ganoush and Beef Fillet

During his television appearance, Dominik W. did not hold back. He impressed his guests with a sophisticated menu that included beef fillet and baba ganoush, the well-known Lebanese eggplant puree. His culinary skills earned him the title of best amateur cook of the week, which had the theme "A Romantic Journey Through Eurasia." This achievement came with a prize of 3,000 euros, but it may also bring him significant trouble.

Investigation to Determine If the Show Was Filmed During Sick Leave

The regional administration is now working to establish the exact timeline of events. It is alleged that Dominik W. also participated in another cooking competition called "Küchenschlacht." The teacher responded to the authority's inquiries within the set deadlines, but the details of his response are not public. If professional misconduct is confirmed, disciplinary actions could be taken against him. However, if there is sufficient evidence to support his claims, the case might be dismissed.

A Scandal Reminiscent of Another

This incident follows a similar case that occurred two months ago in the same region. A biology and geography teacher had managed to remain on sick leave for 16 years without ever being required to meet with an expert physician. She was paid between 5,051 and 6,174 euros per month, yet she never attended the vocational school where she was assigned. It was only through an internal audit that this long-term absence was uncovered.
