Sara Cox Raises £6M for Children in Need

Sara Cox Completes 135-Mile Marathon for Children in Need

Sara Cox, a well-known presenter on BBC Radio 2, has successfully completed an extraordinary 135-mile marathon as part of the Great Northern Marathon Challenge. This challenging event saw her travel from the Scottish border to Pudsey in Leeds over the course of five days.

The journey equates to running five marathons in just five days, a feat that required immense physical and mental strength. Throughout the challenge, Sara faced various obstacles, including harsh weather conditions and difficult terrain. Despite these challenges, she remained determined and resilient.

During the event, Sara was informed that she had already raised over £1,000,000 for Children in Need. This news brought her to tears, and she expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout the journey.

On Thursday, Sara crossed the finishing line around 3:30 pm, completing the marathon with a total fundraising amount of £7,600,000. Her achievement was celebrated by family, friends, and a crowd of supporters who cheered her on as she reached the end.

After finishing the marathon, Sara had the opportunity to speak with her BBC co-host, Scott Mills. Just minutes after crossing the finish line, she joked about the challenge, calling it a “really silly idea.”

“This was such a ridiculous thing to do,” she said. She also thanked her trainer, Greg White, who has helped run 40 challenges for Children in Need.

Speaking about the experience, Sara described it as “the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” She mentioned the extreme pain she endured during the journey, adding that the weather was bitterly cold, wet, and dirty. However, she was inspired by the support from people along the way.

“The truck drivers honking their horns, the farmers coming out, kids too and just so many homemade signs,” she said. These moments of encouragement helped her push through the toughest parts of the marathon.

Before starting the challenge, Sara expressed both honor and horror at being selected for the marathon. She acknowledged the difficulty of the task, stating, “We’re talking 135 miles of hills, moors and blisters – but I am ready for the challenge, and I will absolutely be giving it everything I’ve got!”

She also emphasized the importance of the support from her audience, saying, “I know the brilliant Radio 2 listeners will be with me every step of the way, and their encouragement and support will shove me up every incline and pull me through my toughest moments.”

Sara highlighted the significance of Pudsey’s involvement with Children in Need, noting that it has been 40 years since Pudsey became part of the charity. She felt it was the perfect way to celebrate this milestone by helping raise funds for children in need.

Sara’s incredible journey not only showcased her determination and resilience but also demonstrated the power of community support. Her efforts have made a significant impact, and her story continues to inspire others to contribute to meaningful causes.
