Britain's Top Viral Food Spots with £9 Crumble

Going viral on TikTok can be a double-edged sword for food businesses and their customers. While some food enthusiasts rely on For You Page recommendations, others find it frustrating when restaurants become mere trends rather than genuine dining experiences.

This phenomenon has been evident in popular foodie spots like Rome, where influencers gather for the so-called “best tiramisu,” or Londoners who travel great distances for a hearty sandwich. A recent study has highlighted the top 20 most sought-after dining destinations in Britain, with Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddy Squat Farm among them.

The research revealed that social media is reshaping traditional eating habits, as one in three (34%) of respondents prefer visiting a restaurant that has gone viral over a Michelin-starred establishment. This number increases to 53% among Gen Z. Additionally, nearly 40% admitted they visited a place solely because it had gained popularity online. According to Tempcover’s findings, the average distance traveled was 43 miles.

While some may criticize the idea of a viral restaurant—whether it's cool or embarrassingly basic—there’s an argument that the best places are often hidden gems. Despite this, the majority of diners seem satisfied, with 91% expressing contentment and only 2% feeling any regret.

The Top Viral Food Spots in Britain

The Shed, London

Touted as a “farm to fork” restaurant in Notting Hill, The Shed is a prime example of a trendy influencer hotspot. Prices here are steep, with a Yorkshire sirloin chop costing £74, and a 900g Yorkshire T Bone priced at £90. A 1.2kg Yorkshire prime rib, meant for sharing, comes in at £120—ideal for special occasions.

Humble Crumble, London

Famous for its long queues, Humble Crumble has multiple locations across London, including Old Spitalfields Market, Borough Market, and Covent Garden. While many enjoy their desserts, not everyone is impressed. One reviewer on Instagram claimed the £9 sweet treat was “ridiculously overhyped.”

Beef Smokehouse, Manchester

Described as “the north’s best smokehouse,” Beef Smokehouse offers a variety of meats, from brisket to dino ribs. Vegetarians will also appreciate the banana pudding, which has been praised as “irresistible.”

Max’s Sandwich Shop, London

Max’s Sandwich Shop has become a Crouch Hill institution, known for its simple yet satisfying sandwiches. It has received praise for being unpretentious and delivering quality meals.

Evelyn’s Cafe Bar, Manchester

Evelyn’s Cafe Bar serves brunch by day and small plates by night, drawing inspiration from Middle Eastern and pan-Asian cuisine. It has become a go-to spot for locals and travelers alike.

Fitzbillies, Cambridge

Fitzbillies is a Cambridge staple, famous for its sticky Chelsea buns since 1920. These buns have become so popular that they’re now available individually, as part of a bake-at-home kit, or even as a Chelsea bun cake. Their brunch offerings, including a top-notch hash brown, are also worth trying.

Urban Tandoor, Bristol

Urban Tandoor has gained attention for its commitment to memes and humor. However, not all reviews have been positive, with some patrons calling the curry “average at best.”

Fat Hippo, Cardiff

With a motto centered around “the good kind of gluttony,” Fat Hippo is known for its burgers and dirty fries. While some rave about their meaty offerings, others find the burgers too dry.

Hickory’s Smokehouse, Birmingham

Hickory’s Smokehouse serves up burger stacks, steaks, and gooey mac and cheese. Founded after a U.S. road trip, it has been described as “unreal” by many.

Fat Pats, Manchester

Fat Pats has made waves in Manchester with its Philly Cheesesteak and Hot Honey Fried Chicken. The restaurant also donates 2.5% of its profits to charity.

Diddly Squat Farm, Chipping Norton

Diddly Squat Farm, owned by Jeremy Clarkson, has made the list for obvious reasons. Last year, visitors faced long queues, with some even turned away. Clarkson has also considered banning customers with food intolerances, though he later clarified that the incident was untrue.
