Healing, Culture, and Coastlines: Thailand's Ultimate Travel Escape

Thailand is more than just a destination for sun-soaked beaches and vibrant city life. It offers a unique blend of experiences that encourage travelers to take their time, immerse themselves in the local culture, and return feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
At the World Travel Market in London, Chiravadee Khunsub, the deputy governor for International Marketing at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, shared her insights on what makes Thailand such an appealing destination.
“When people think about holidays, they often look for a place where they can enjoy happy times,” Khunsub said. “Thailand is exactly that kind of destination.”
The country boasts a wide range of tourism offerings, from the northern regions, which are home to numerous national parks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, to the southern coastlines known for their world-renowned beaches.
What truly sets Thailand apart, according to Khunsub, is not just its natural beauty or attractions but also the warmth and hospitality of its people. Visitors frequently comment on the authenticity of their experiences, she noted, and the friendly nature of the Thai people enhances every interaction.
“We are known for our hospitality and excellent service,” Khunsub explained with a smile. “This is one of the reasons many tourists come back. Some provinces even see repeat visitors at rates of 60 per cent.”
Known as 'The Land of Smiles', Thailand is also encouraging travelers to venture beyond the typical tourist spots and explore the country’s vast diversity.
“Thailand has over 55 provinces to discover,” Khunsub mentioned. “For European and American visitors, we highlight 13 key provinces. For example, Nan in the north is like Chiang Mai 30 years ago. It’s very authentic, and the local culture is still very much alive.”
Wellness is another major draw for visitors to Thailand. The country offers a variety of wellness experiences, including Muay Thai training for those looking to improve their health and fitness.
“Thailand's wellness industry ranks among the top five globally,” Khunsub said. “This is due to our rich heritage and cultural practices, such as herbal medicine and traditional Thai massage.”
However, for Khunsub, the true essence of healing in Thailand goes beyond spas and treatments. It lies in the kindness of its people, the depth of its culture, and the way the country encourages a slower pace of life.
Travelers who visit Thailand often find themselves captivated by the combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality. Whether it’s exploring ancient temples, relaxing on pristine beaches, or simply enjoying the local cuisine, there is something for every type of traveler.
