What You Can and Can’t Do in Dubai

Taking Photos

Photography in public spaces can be tricky in Dubai. Taking a photo of someone without their consent might result in a significant fine or even jail time. This is especially true if the photos are posted online, as it is considered a breach of privacy. According to Tetiana, the fines could range from £31,000 to £103,000, depending on the severity of the violation. Additionally, taking pictures of aircraft, government buildings, or military installations without permission is also illegal.

Sleeping in Public

If you're ever tempted to take a nap on a beach or in a park, think twice. The act of sleeping in public could lead to a fine of £62. However, this rule does not apply to relaxing on a sun lounger at a resort, so there's no need to worry about that.

Littering

Littering is taken very seriously in Dubai. The city has a zero-tolerance policy for this behavior. If you're caught throwing away an empty water bottle or dropping a chocolate wrapper, you could face a fine of £103. It’s best to wait until you find a bin to dispose of your waste.

Jaywalking

Crossing the road where there is no designated pedestrian crossing is not allowed in Dubai. This practice, known as jaywalking, can result in a fine of £82. While it may seem like a small inconvenience, it's worth avoiding to prevent any legal issues.

Washing Your Car

An unusual law in Dubai is that washing your car in public is against the rules. Although it might seem counterintuitive, local authorities require cars to be washed in private. If you don't comply, you could face another fine of £103. It's definitely not worth the risk.
