Hollywood Star, 37, Unveils University Journey

Hollywood Star's Return to Education

Hollywood actor Glen Powell, known for his roles in "Twisters" and "Hit Man," has shared a surprising detail about his life. At 37, he has returned to university, embarking on a journey to complete his degree.

Powell first enrolled at the University of Austin in 2007 to study Radio, Television, and Film. However, he left after a year to concentrate on his acting career. Now, nearly two decades later, he is back at the University of Texas to finish his degree.

During an interview with Variety, Powell surprised his co-stars from "The Running Man," Josh Brolin and Lee Pace, by asking them to his graduation. His question, "Hey, you guys wanna come to my graduation?" left Brolin stunned, responding with, "Are you serious?"

Powell explained that he is set to graduate and receive his bachelor’s degree in 2027 after completing his studies properly.

Lee posed a question that many might be thinking: how does Powell manage to star in major blockbusters while pursuing his degree? Powell clarified that he is only taking six credits per semester to balance his workload.

"I’ll throw a massive graduation party if you guys want to tear it up in Austin," Powell said, and Brolin confirmed he would absolutely attend.

Last year, the star of "Top Gun: Maverick" told IndieWire that he would be completing lectures and coursework via Zoom while filming "The Running Man." He mentioned that he wouldn't be attending regular classes but would be returning to finish his studies.

"I’m not going to be sitting in a class with other students on the regular," he began. "I’m basically going to be coming back because I have to finish up, but I’m going to be shooting The Running Man in the fall. So I’m going to be in London, but I am going to be going back for proctored exams. So, they’re letting me figure it out [with] distance learning."

He also praised director Edgar Wright for being accommodating, allowing him to finish his degree during the filming of a major movie.

Powell is not alone in this endeavor. Many celebrities have returned to education after achieving fame. After the release of the final Harry Potter film, Emma Watson graduated from Brown with a bachelor’s degree in English literature in 2014. America Ferrera, known for her role in "Barbie," completed her degree in International Relations ten years after leaving USC. Eva Longoria earned a master’s degree in Chicano and Chicana Studies in 2013 while filming "Desperate Housewives." Even Steven Spielberg, despite winning an Oscar, completed his Arts degree in 2002, which he had started almost 40 years earlier.
