Idemitsu Vietnam Honors Maestro Dang Thai Son

A Celebration of Cultural Exchange and Musical Excellence
Idemitsu Vietnam has launched an annual classical music initiative called “Timeless Resonance,” which first took place in 2024. This programme is part of a broader effort to promote cultural exchange and elevate the classical music scene in Vietnam. The initiative reflects Idemitsu’s belief that music has the unique ability to connect people across borders, cultures, and time.
Chapter II of the programme paid tribute to the legendary pianist Dang Thai Son, whose influence has inspired generations of musicians. The event featured performances by five of his prize-winning protégés from Vietnam, Japan, and Canada. Their artistry highlighted the universal language of music — one that transcends culture, language, and time.
Each artist brought their own interpretation of passion and precision to the stage, showcasing the diversity of musical expression. Among them was Nguyen Dang Quang, one of Vietnam’s most prominent young pianists. He has won prestigious competitions such as the Val Tidone International Music Competition in Italy and the ASIA International Piano Festival in South Korea. Beyond his accolades, Quang has represented Vietnam on global stages, performing at royal and diplomatic events for Denmark, Japan, and Canada.
Yuki Yoshimi, a prodigious talent from Japan, is hailed as one of the country's finest young pianists. She has won the 86th Japan Music Competition and reached the semi-finals of the Queen Elisabeth International Competition. Her performances blend technical mastery with poetic depth, offering audiences a profound musical experience.
JJ Bui, a pianist from Vietnam and Canada, made history as the youngest finalist at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition at just 17 years old. Known for his remarkable sensitivity and dynamic expression, JJ has captivated audiences around the world with his artistry.
Arisa Onoda, another rising star from Japan, has earned acclaim for her performances. She has won first prize at the Juliusz Zarebski International Music Competition and received the Best Beethoven Prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition. Arisa’s performances radiate youthful grace and emotional depth, making her a promising figure in the classical music world.
Luu Hong Quang, a distinguished pianist and educator at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA) in Sydney, brings heartfelt artistry and technical command to the stage. His performances have been shaped under the mentorship of Dang Thai Son, further highlighting the legacy of this iconic musician.
The evening concluded with a breathtaking four-hand performance by JJ Bui and Yuki Yoshimi, who played Samuel Barber’s “Souvenirs.” This piece symbolised friendship, harmony, and artistic unity between Japan and Vietnam, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
For Idemitsu Vietnam, “Timeless Resonance” is more than just a concert — it is a cultural bridge that fosters dialogue between nations. The initiative is built upon shared values of respect, creativity, and humanity, creating a space where music can unite people across different backgrounds.
“The beauty of world-class classical music is something we are thrilled to bring directly to the Vietnamese community,” said Egashira, the general director of Idemitsu Vietnam. “This programme is a shining example of our dedication to nurturing the next generation of musicians while contributing to Vietnam’s cultural and artistic growth.”

As the final notes of the performance echoed through the opera house, “Timeless Resonance – Chapter II” left behind more than just music. It created a lingering feeling of connection — a reminder that the most beautiful harmonies are those that unite people across time, culture, and heart.
