MVP unveils canceled WWE supergroup concept with Cena

The Unseen Rap Storyline in WWE
MVP, a former WWE star, has shared an intriguing and previously unknown storyline that involved a rap supergroup with John Cena and R-Truth. The concept, which was called "Urban Desperados," was meant to showcase the hip-hop talents of these three wrestlers. Despite positive reactions from some within the company, the idea never saw the light of day due to lack of approval from Vince McMahon.
MVP, now signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), is still active in the wrestling world and has plans to support younger talent before retiring in a year or two. This story highlights the creative ideas that were once considered for WWE but ultimately rejected.
A Unique Musical Collaboration
MVP recalled the time when he invited John Cena to his home studio to record a verse for a song. He described the beat as having a slight guitar and Western sound, followed by a heavy drumbeat. MVP named the song "Urban Desperados" and envisioned a collaboration between himself, Cena, and R-Truth.
He explained that the plan was for all three of them to contribute verses, creating a unique song that could have been a hit. MVP wanted to take this further by bringing the partnership on-screen, with him and R-Truth acting as backup for Cena during a storyline.
The Reaction from the Wrestlers
Cena was reportedly impressed with the idea, saying it was "pretty cool." However, he mentioned that if Vince McMahon approved it, they would go ahead with the plan. Unfortunately, the idea was not accepted by McMahon, and the storyline never materialized.
MVP expressed that he believed the short storyline could have helped promote the song. Although most people he spoke to thought it was fun, McMahon's disapproval ended the idea.
John Cena's Work Ethic
Cena is set to retire next month after 23 years in WWE, and MVP spoke fondly about his former colleague's work ethic and dedication. He described how Cena would often travel nonstop, flying from one location to another to film movies while also performing in WWE events.
MVP remembered how Cena would walk into the venue with a script in hand, deliver a promo, wrestle a 20-25-minute match, and then head back to the jet to finish filming. He praised Cena for his ability to thrive under pressure and emphasized that he tolerates no slander against him.
MVP's Future Plans
After recently celebrating his 52nd birthday, MVP admitted he is close to winding down his in-ring career. However, he is not ready to retire just yet, as the Hurt Syndicate is still a force in AEW. MVP underwent stem cell treatment on the advice of WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, which has helped him stay fit and extend his career.
He continues to wrestle when needed and believes he still has "some gas in the tank." When the time comes for him to retire, he wants to make sure he can give back to the business and lose to a rising star on the way out.
A Legacy to Leave Behind
MVP hopes to work with some younger talent and go out on his back. He is unsure about exactly when he will retire but believes it might be in a year or two. For now, he is still in good shape and feels he has what it takes to continue wrestling.
