Top Viral Foodie Spots in Singapore Revealed – Find Them Near You

Top 20 Trending Food Spots in the UK

A recent survey has unveiled the top 20 trending food spots in the UK, with The Shed in London claiming the number one position. This list was compiled based on a poll of 2,000 adults who use social media, highlighting the growing influence of online platforms on food choices.

Humble Crumble, a viral dessert shop, secured the second spot, while Beef Smokehouse in Manchester came in third. Other notable entries include SpudMan, a jacket potato specialist, and Urban Tandoor of Bristol, known for its musical parodies such as 'Bhaji Girl' and 'You're the Naan that I Want'. Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm also made the list, reflecting its popularity among food enthusiasts.

Interestingly, the study found that one in three people would prefer visiting a venue that has gone viral over a Michelin-starred restaurant. This preference is even higher among Gen Z, with 53 per cent expressing a similar sentiment.

The research was commissioned by Tempcover, a car insurance expert, which developed a tool to help Brits plan road trips to some of the nation’s best food spots. By inputting a postcode and the distance they are willing to travel, users can discover nearby attractions.

Nearly four in 10 people have visited a restaurant because it had gained popularity on social media. One in 20 admitted to traveling over 100 miles just to visit one, with an average longest distance of 43 miles. Additionally, 91 per cent reported being satisfied with their trip, and only two per cent were dissatisfied.

Marc Pell, managing director of Tempcover, commented: “The research shows social media is now one of the most powerful drivers of food discovery among Brits, where for some, a viral burger can beat the old school prestige of a Michelin star. These platforms have opened a whole new world of food for many – and it’s clear they’re willing to travel longer distances with loved ones to visit these locations. This is about making a memory as much as it is about the meal.”

Popular Foods on Social Media

The research also revealed that smoky BBQ platters are the most sought-after food seen on social media, with 18 per cent of respondents interested. This is followed by loaded fries (13 per cent) and melted cheese dishes (13 per cent).

Social Media Influence on Food Choices

Instagram is the platform that influences food choices the most, with 18 per cent of respondents citing it as their main source. This figure rises to 28 per cent for both Millennials and Gen Z. Facebook, on the other hand, was the top influencer for Boomers, with 11 per cent. However, 73 per cent of respondents said none of the major social media sites influenced their food choices, a view shared by just one in 10 Gen Zs.

As the influence of social media continues to grow, it's clear that food discovery is becoming more dynamic and accessible.
