Toy Story 5 Teaser Unveiled in Singapore

Exciting New Chapter for Toy Story
The first trailer for Toy Story 5 has been released, and it has already sparked a lot of conversation among fans. The teaser trailer, which was unveiled on November 11, features a tagline that reads, “The age of toys is over…?” This hints at a new storyline that explores the impact of technology on childhood.
In the trailer, viewers are introduced to a new character named Lilypad, a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet. The character is voiced by Greta Lee, who is known for her roles in Past Lives and Tron: Ares. The teaser shows a package arriving for Bonnie, and when it is opened, all the existing toys are shocked to see the green tablet toy.
This new addition sets up technology as the “new threat to playtime,” leading fans to believe that the movie will tackle the challenges parents face with screen-using children. Some fans have expressed their thoughts on social media platforms like X and Reddit, discussing how the film might handle this complex topic.

On Reddit, many fans were unsure about how the film would address the issue of kids and technology. One user, Asoiaf_266AC, said, “The iPad baby storyline is about to wreak havoc on some parents.” Another user, AllTheReservations, commented, “Admittedly the ‘kids these days want iPads, not toys’ story is pretty well trodden ground by this point, but I am pretty interested to see how Toy Story would handle it.”
Some fans felt that the concept of toys versus electronics could resonate with those who played with toys as kids and are now glued to their phones and iPads. nicolasb51942003 added, “I trust Andrew Stanton with whatever he’s gonna whip up.” Meanwhile, lalisatto argued, “The villain being an iPad showing us how kids these days prefer that over toys is so smart.”

Other fans suggested that the story might be a bit late to the game. imleeyo commented, “Cool but this plot is literally 10 years too late. This should’ve been the main plot of the third movie.” However, some users, like silly_sophie08, believed that the movie could help teach kids about limiting their device usage.
Cast and Release Details
Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack are set to reprise their roles as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie, respectively. The Toy Story franchise, which has spanned over 30 years, is set to continue with the fifth movie, scheduled for release in the summer of 2026.
The first film was released in 1995, followed by the second in 1999. The third film came 15 years after the first, and the fourth film was released in 2019 after a decade-long wait. The 2019 film focused on Woody and Buzz as they took a road trip with their new child, Bonnie. During the trip, Woody was reunited with Bo Peep and had to decide where his loyalties lay. The film ended with Woody leaving Bonnie to help abandoned toys find owners, with his true love, Bo Peep.
The fourth film grossed $1.074 billion worldwide and was nominated for two awards at the 92nd Academy Awards. Toy Story 5 is set to hit cinemas on June 19.
