Trump draws ridicule after seeming to doze during Oval Office health briefing

A Day of Controversy and Concern

On November 6, Donald Trump hosted an Oval Office event at the White House, intended to highlight a significant announcement regarding lowering drug prices. However, the focus quickly shifted from the policy details to the president's apparent lack of attentiveness during the proceedings.

During the event, Trump was seen slumped in his chair, seemingly asleep while others spoke, particularly during Dr. Oz’s remarks. The images circulated online, sparking widespread discussion and even mockery. California Governor Gavin Newsom humorously referred to Trump as «Dozy Don» and shared photo montages of the president appearing to doze off. Many social media users questioned Trump’s ability to govern effectively if he continues to exhibit such behavior.

Growing Health Concerns

This incident has intensified existing concerns about Trump’s health. Over the past months, there have been ongoing discussions about his age and medical history. Earlier this year, the White House disclosed that the 79-year-old president suffers from chronic venous insufficiency but emphasized that he remains in excellent overall health.

More recently, Trump revealed he underwent an MRI at Walter Reed in October and described the results as «perfect». However, neither he nor the White House has provided details on why the scan was conducted or what it revealed. This lack of transparency has led former White House doctors and outside specialists to call for more openness regarding his condition.

A Wave of Commentary

During the televised event, photos and short video clips captured Trump with his eyes closed and slumped in his chair for an extended period. Many viewers interpreted this as him dozing off while officials and pharmaceutical executives continued their speeches.

In recent months, Trump has been filmed at other events where he appeared to nod off. For instance, at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh, cameras captured him tipping forward with his eyes closed for several seconds. At a 2024 Latino outreach event in Miami, footage circulated online suggesting he had briefly fallen asleep.

According to reports, Trump appeared to be asleep for around 20 minutes during the White House event, fueling a wave of commentary and headlines questioning who is actually running the White House.

The Same Event

Other viral photos and videos from the same event show Trump standing rigidly behind his desk while staff members tend to a collapsed guest on the floor, lifting his legs.

Many viewers saw this scene as a metaphor for his presidency: a distant, passive leader watching crises unfold rather than actively helping. The White House has focused its public comments on the medical emergency that later interrupted the event, stating that the guest who fainted was treated by the White House Medical Unit and is now okay. However, they have not directly addressed whether Trump was asleep during the incident.
