Why Aussies Wait Over Two Hours at a Simple Store

The Rise of charrd: A Burger Joint That’s Taking Melbourne by Storm

In the heart of Melbourne's Brunswick East, a small takeaway shop called charrd has become the talk of the town. Despite its modest size and lack of seating, this burger joint has been drawing huge crowds every day since it was named the 14th best burger in the World's 25 Best Burger of 2025.

The shop, which opened just four months ago, has managed to sell over 800 burgers a day. Its popularity is evident from the long queues that form outside its door, with some customers waiting for more than two hours to get their hands on a burger.

What Makes charrd So Popular?

charrd offers four types of cheeseburgers:

  • Classic single ($15)
  • Classic double ($18)
  • charrd single ($16)
  • charrd double ($19)

Among these, the charrd double is the most requested. This charcoal grilled double-patty cheeseburger comes with chilli jam and truffle mayo, making it a favorite among customers.

Many customers have raved about the quality and taste of the burgers. One customer said, "It lived up to all the hype and is easily the best burger I have ever had, such a simple burger but the quality and taste is something else."

Another added, "The wait time is long for a reason. One of the best burgers I've ever had. It's juicy and the aioli on the charrd burger is the cherry on top."

Mixed Reactions from Customers

While many customers are thrilled with their experience at charrd, not everyone is satisfied. Some have criticized the long wait times and the value for money.

"One of the best burgers I've ever had. It's juicy and the aioli on the charrd burger is the cherry on top," one customer shared. However, another said, "Pretty overrated. The burger is... not what I was expecting. Decent burger but definitely not worth the one-hour wait."

Another customer mentioned, "If you wanna try this place, be ready to wait for a long time. The charrd burger is quite special. You can literally taste the truffle and mayo flavour. It's really cheesy and greasy though. To be honest, it's not worth spending that much time waiting for this burger."

Personal Experiences and Opinions

Some customers have traveled across Melbourne to try the famous burger. One said, "The burger itself is really good. Easily the best in Melbourne. The burgers are minimalist, which I like. However, it's very much on the small side, and the fries are a similarly tiny serve."

However, not all experiences were positive. One customer expressed disappointment after waiting for a long time, saying, "I was finally able to get my hands on those burgers after a second attempt. First attempt the line was way too long and didn't bother waiting."

He continued, "Firstly the classic and the charrd double burger tasted the same, didn't taste the smokiness that everyone is talking about. The beef patties weren't as juicy and the buns were a bit dry. Was just an average burger to my liking."

Final Thoughts

Despite the mixed reviews, charrd continues to attract large crowds. Whether it's worth the wait depends on personal preferences. For some, the quality and taste of the burgers make the long lines worthwhile. For others, the wait might not be worth it.

As the debate continues, one thing is clear: charrd has made a significant impact on Melbourne's food scene, and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down.
